The team announced that Love had the procedure, calling it successful, at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. The surgery was performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley.
Love said earlier this week that he wasn’t sure how long he would be out with a painful big toe injury on his left foot. The injury has bothered him since the preseason opener and affected his ability to walk.
In December, the Cavaliers expect to announce an update on Love’s timeline to return to the court after treatment and rehabilitation.
Love has played in four games this season, averaging 19 points and 13.5 rebounds. The five-time All-Star signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension this summer. Love’s injury and recovery is another major blow to the Cavs, who are 1-7 and fired coach Tyronn Lue on Sunday.
